SHOPPING

The best streets for shopping are in Downtown Copenhagen, particularly for international designer shops and for department stores. Other important shopping areas are around Osterbro, Vesterbro, Norrebro, Hellerup and Frederiksberg. The main international chains and designer boutiques are located around Strøget.

Magasin du Nord, the largest mall in the whole Scandinavia, is located on Kongens Nytorv.

Flea markets are open only in spring and summer usually on Saturday; the most popular are in the Frederiksberg City Hall, on Israels Plads and on Norrebrogade. They usually are cheap and funny.

NIGHTLIFE

Copenhagen has plenty of cafés and bars, ranging from traditional to trendy. They all offer gourmet food and traditional Danish staples, like 'frikadeller' (meat balls) and smørrebrød (open sandwiches). Most clubs and cafés stay open until very late, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights when they transform with DJs playing.

Copenhagen This Week (www.ctw.dk) and Wonderful Copenhagen website (www.visitcopenhagen.com) provide full information about nightlife and about every kind of cultural event.

RESTAURANTS

Recently a lot of stlylish new restaurants opened in town, with different influences on cooking: French, Japanese, Thai, Nordic and so on.
However, you can still enjoy classical café grub and a truly Danish hot dog in the sun. For those wishing to taste perhaps the most outstanding of traditional Danish food, the best time is at lunch when the unique open-faced sandwiches are served.

Over 100 restaurants, cafés and delis in Copenhagen are part of the 'climate-friendly' network striving to serve organic, locally produced, environment friendly food. You will recognise them by their Klima + logo.
